Chapter 14 Alone With The CEO

  • I glanced at my watch for the third time. It said 7:00 am. So, where is everyone? I rushed past that guy, Connor, and the rest of the Outdoor team in the staff room, with a croissant hanging from my mouth and a steaming cup of coffee in a Styrofoam cup. They didn't seem to be in a hurry to arrive on time, their forest green waterproof jackets hanging from the chairs.
  • I don't have a suitable jacket besides my winter coat, so I wore several layers along with my vest and mountain boots. I wonder if that will be good enough. If not, someone will have to outfit me. If someone shows up.
  • Is this the right door? It looks like the main entrance, with iron steps and a stone and wood security booth to the right. A bit silly, given that I heard there's nowhere to go. The only way to get to Star Cove is by plane or boat. We are surrounded by mountains and water, and in front of us is the Kenai Fjords National Park. I'm about to ask the guard when a dull noise cuts through the remote peace. It comes from a black van slowly advancing along the service road, a path hidden from view of the lodge by a thick hedge of cedar. I step aside to let the truck pass. It stops next to me in place.
