• The room remains quiet, the soft hum of silence between us as Luna sits on my lap, her arms draped around my neck. Her head rests against my shoulder, and I can feel her steady breathing, the rise and fall of her chest against mine. I don’t want to disturb this moment, but part of me aches to ask her about the past, to know more about what she’s been through. But it’s not the right time. She might be smiling now, but I know she’s grieving. Beneath the laughter and teasing, she’s holding onto a lot of pain. She needs time, and pushing her too soon would only hurt her more.
• Her quiet voice breaks the silence. “I was disappointed, Dante.”
