• The heavy, drugged feeling lingers, but it’s shifting, fading into something else. My limbs feel sluggish, but my mind starts racing, thoughts sparking like live wires, jumping too fast for me to catch them. The dullness is melting, giving way to something jittery, something restless.
• I sit up too quickly, and my head spins. Dale is still beside me, watching, his expression unreadable. He looks satisfied, like he’s pleased with himself. My skin crawls, but the discomfort is quickly replaced by the need to move.
