Chapter 66
- Jason's POV
- Fighting Alphas isn't new to me. I've taken down plenty - some gave up, others fought to their last breath. But none of them worried me like Damon did. His transformation wasn't normal. Instead of shifting into a wolf, he became something monstrous, reminding me of the creature that tried to kill Katherine the day the virus spread. My moment of hesitation cost me. He landed a hit that sent me sprawling, then trapped me beneath his foot. As he drew back his fist for the killing blow, a scream pierced the vicinity.
- "No!" Katherine screamed, standing at the entrance of the pack house with Michael holding her back. To my surprise, Damon backed down immediately. His transformation back to human form was forced, like it was against his will. I watched the way he shifted, utterly petrified by how he looked. Wolf or not, something was off about him. When he shifted back to human, he started approaching Katherine. I bared my teeth, ready to protect my mate, but Damon surprised me. Instead, like a man under a spell, Damon went on his knees in front of her and bowed his head. At her feet, he started to cry. He cried so hard that his body was shaking. He put his head on her feet, weeping without saying a word.
