• Kora let me out, the same girl who’d earlier come into the room to kill me. I’d pleaded my case, begged her not to kill me, instead she let me go. I didn’t have time to think about why, I needed to escape and find my mates. It was already clear Damon didn’t want me. The bond can’t be completed, but I was dying.
• I didn’t understand why Kora followed close behind me, taunting me, until I stumbled into open doors. There, leaning against the wall, I heard a dialogue that was not meant for my ears. I heard my mate, the man I was starting to fall for, speak of me like I was some piece of puzzle.
