- “When were you going to say something? Or were you going to up and leave without telling me?” Michael’s voice was verging on a volume that would have the neighbors far and near complaining, looming over her as Carlina sat on the sofa, slowly curling in on herself. “After everything I do for you, how could you fuckin’ do this to me, Carlina?”
- Carlina lifted her head at that, stubbornly refusing to cry despite knowing she looked glassy eyed. “I have a job, just like you. My new apartment is even closer to you. I don’t see what I’ve done wrong!” Michael snatched her chin in a painfully tight grip, neither taking the defeat of blinking first.
