Chapter 10

  • “No, it's eight like usual, isn't it? Oh, for fuck’s sake, no, the day manager failed to mention he'd changed that booking. I can make that start, it's fine it's not fine. I can make it but that little shitbag is getting a piece of my mind when he comes in for his shift. Rob, I drive a banger, zero issues hitting him with it.”
  • Ella was cradling her phone to the side of her head with her shoulder, slowly brewing a mug of tea as she stretched her stiff limbs. “You know what, give me ten or so minutes. I'm going to ring the dayshift manager - if we stay for an event, it's double time. If they have to bring me in early, it's time and a half. Going to hit him where it hurts, right in the spreadsheets - plus, he'd be on his fourth write-up for excess staffing costs and turnover, maybe they'll finally replace him with someone who can do the job.” There was the telltale pad of feet behind her, promptly followed by the whirr of the coffee machine.
  • “Yeah, you too fucko, catch ya later,” her words were laced with a chuckle as Ella fired off some quick texts to sort the event staffing while she slowly sipped at her mug.
