- “I was engaged... Years ago.” Clyde spoke, tracing imaginary patterns on her skin as he lay behind her. “The gal… took her life, it wasn't long after that that I switched lines of work. That stalking bastard slipping through the law's fingers time after time, it probably felt like her last piece of control.”
- While the honesty was slightly awkward, Ella could guess it had something to do with all the jokes that bartenders were only a few steps from therapists. Annoyingly, she fit the stereotype.
- “Going to guess that's got something to do with being clingy after I patched you up?” she murmured, turning her head to glance over her shoulder at him as he nodded, an arm snaking around her waist to pull against his chest.
