Chapter 54

  • The silvery moonlight slithered in through the open windows, pooling on the sleeping couple while bathing the room in a silvery sheen. Everywhere was silent and still in the moonlit room; for some time, the only movement was the steady rise and fall of the slumbering people on the bed. Suddenly, the smallest of the figures stirred, turning on their side and restlessly making moaning sounds that sounded like they were in pain.
  • Rosalind gasped and sat up in bed with a look of terror creasing her face. She sat like that for some time, as still as a statue, until slowly the terror was replaced by something else, something far more horrific: hate. Her head swiveled on her neck like they were rubbery, and she turned slowly to the man sleeping heavily by her side.
  • The moonlight bathed her face in a deathly glow, making her look pale and terrifying. She exhaled slowly, her nose flaring in anger at the man who lay beside her. Smirking when she remembered the look on his face when he had heard her fabricated story earlier that day, she knew that she had made the right choice. He really deserved to die for the pain he had caused her and for the precious lives of her parents, whom he had taken forcefully in their prime.
