Chapter 9 My Saviour
- Kace got back from the moonshine pack late at night. He went straight to Devon’s study to relay Raphael’s reply, But Devon wasn’t in his study. Devon was always awake at night, but today was different. Kace found it strange. He went to look for it, but met his wife, Doris.
- She told Kace that Raphael went out with Devon but wasn’t home yet. He called up Lucas but got no answer, which he found odd.
- “What the hell is going on?” He muttered to himself as he stood outside waiting for them to arrive. He didn’t remember Lucas saying anything about an outing late in the night.
- The sky was still dark, but the rain had stopped when Lucas drove into the pack. The car light shone on Kace, who had been waiting restlessly for them. Kace had a lot of questions to ask, but he forgot it all when he saw Devon coming out from the passenger side of the car with a girl in his arms.
- He stood there with his mouth wide open, but no words came out. Devon walked past the shocked Kace and, as Lucas was about to walk past, Kace stopped him.
- “Who is that? What is going on? Where have you been?” He bombarded Lucas with questions. “That’s the supreme Alpha mate,” Lucas answered one question, staring in the direction Devon went.
- “Mate! Did you just say, mate?” Kace exclaimed, bewilderment visible on his face. “No, you must be joking Lucas, how can that be? I thought the Alpha was cursed to be without a mate” Kace was surprised. “I guess the rumors were wrong,” Lucas replied, patting Kace’s shoulder as he walked in.
- Devon took Alice to his room and laid her on the bed. Lucas came in soon after. Devon held her tightly, like he was never going to let go. “Devon, you need to release her,” Lucas tried to persuade Devon, but he wasn’t bulging. Thankfully, his eyes had changed back to its deep blue color.
- “Her clothes are wet and she may get sick if she sleeps in them” Lucas walked further into the room nervously. Kace arrived and stood at the entrance of the room, as he was now convinced he didn’t mishear Lucas. It still felt surreal to him.
- Lucas’ words finally seemed to sink into Devon’s head as he looked down at his mate. Her skin was pale and her wet hair was stuck to her face. Her clothes were wet too. He closed his eyes, fighting his wolf, and he won the struggle.
- Devon’s jaw clenched tightly as he released her. He couldn’t believe it centuries ago. He vowed to reject his mate if he finally had one; but now that he did, he couldn’t. When he first sensed her, the feelings he had were indescribable. He had this strong desire to protect her from anything.
- He was sure it was because of the stupid mate bond between them. Lucas walked closer to them. “Doris can help her get changed, don’t worry Devon” He looked at Kace, who was standing with a surprised look. “Go and call Doris,” he said to Kace, who still stood unmoving. “Kace!” Kace snapped out of his reverence when he heard his name.
- "What did you say?" he asked. “Go and get Doris. Tell her to come with fresh clothes,” he ordered, and Kace left quickly. Devon brushed away her damp golden hair to get a better look at her face. She was beautiful. She had a pink lip that wasn’t too full and her face was oval shaped.
- A red thick line was visible on the place Alice had been strangled. Devon touched it softly as he felt his rage rise. Kace arrived with Doris a few moments later. Doris became wide-eyed when she saw Devon gripping a girl’s hand. The look of concern was in his eyes. She looked at Lucas in question and he nodded, confirming her suspicion. “Devon, Doris is here already. She can help her change, ‘’ he prompted Devon to let go of his mate.
- Devon looked at Doris, and she nodded in agreement at Lucas. He looked back at Alice before finally letting her go.
- Alice’s almond-shaped eyes fluttered open slowly. She closed it immediately when the bright light invaded her sight. The next second, her eyes became wide when the memories of the previous night came flashing back to her.
- She felt the soft silk blanket on her skin and she pushed her body to sit immediately and was shocked to see her clothes had been changed. Her eyes wandered around the room. It was a vast room with high ceilings, and the window where the sunlight invaded her eyes was large with high-opened curtains. There was also a door leading to the balcony. Alice got up and looked at the king-sized bed she slept in like a baby.
- The room was at least three times bigger than her room, and it was magnificent. She was captivated by the fancy chandelier hanging from the ceiling in the middle of the room. The word “wow “escaped her mouth.
- Her hand reached her neck when she remembered what occurred last night. She thought she was going to die. Who saved her? She wondered. Alice tried to remember his face, but it was blurry in her memory. The door burst open the next moment, startling her and her eyes met the most beautiful blue eyes she had ever seen.
