Chapter 59 Seren
- I walked into the kitchen, a heaviness in my gut at the realization of what I had just admitted to. I had no clue if Lachlan had known of my silly crush on him earlier in my teens. I had always tried hard to hide it. Lachlan was confident, and cocky as a teen, and I knew he would humiliate me had he known. Not to mention my brother would have been nothing but ashamed of me had he learned of it... But, just now, those words had slipped out without thinking, likely due to my tiredness. And, regardless of any potential backlash, I did not plan to stand and discuss it now, I knew that much. The past was always better staying in the past.
- I could tell my words had captured Lachlan's attention because the silence was deathly. If I could have had the earth open up and swallow me whole I gladly would have right then. Anything to escape this awkwardness... But, instead, I decided to try to change the subject. “You got any soda?” I questioned, breaking the awkward silence.
- It wasn’t a question I needed to ask. I had been in this kitchen hundreds of times before. I knew where the refrigerator was. So, I could easily find a soda if needed. This was like a second home to me. As was Aunt Zoe and Uncle Harry’s home. That was what families’ homes were meant to be like, right? An extension of your own… not that they were real family. No, they were godmothers and godfathers. Close friends of my parents. But, closer than some of my real family. And it was them that had helped pick up the pieces when Dad had died. But, a familair home or not, I was still going to act like I needed his help just to fill the silence. Anything was better than have him question me on the past...
