Chapter 47 Seren

• Needing to get away from Lachlan, I rushed through the pack. Walking quicker than I knew was possible, fearing he may try to catch me as he had done on the previous attempts to get away. Only this time there were no footsteps behind me. He had allowed me to get away. He had gained all he had wanted. He had got his own way. That was what he needed from me. He had not been there for me because he cared. He was there to ensure his secret was safe. To ensure he gained what he wanted.
• I walked with my head down, thoroughly ashamed of the whole mess that I found myself in. Not to mention completely confused as to why the Moon Goddess would pair me with someone like him. I always had been led to believe the Moon Goddess was careful in her choices. Carefully selecting the fated mate that would be the one to travel through life with the other... a perfect match... two halves... yet with Lachlan we were more like two jigsaw pieces that would simply not fit together no matter how you tried. The Moon Goddess had messed up. I was losing all faith in her from this choice alone, and the pain I knew it would continue to cause me.
• My footsteps felt heavy as I walked, avoiding the eyes of as many pack members as I could. But, it was a little difficult when it was my birthday. So many people wanted to wish me a happy day, give me a hug, and of course, I had to be polite, and smile, be friendly… a birthday in our close knit community was one that everyone chose to celebrate with you. Most pack members would know of my birthday due to the arranged celebrations later, and many of the members I passed wanted to stop and chat. Some, querying if I was okay... a tear stained face was not normal for a birthday girl...
