• I see Violet’s body shudder and I realize she is likely to fall, and quickly go to catch her, bringing her down to the floor, just as Lachlan moves toward her too. Our reflexes are almost instant. Though I have not taken my eyes off her since she arrived. Her eyelids are flickering… she looks scary.
• I took her hand. “Vi?” I call, as both Lachlan and I knelt by her side.
• After getting no response, I looked at Lachlan. He shrugs. He checks her pulse, though, why I am not sure as I can see from where I was that her breathing is rapid, her chest rising and falling quicker than it had been.
