Chapter 8 Long Time No See
- When the tension was about to reach its breaking point, someone said calmly, “Trevor, are you forcing a lady to bend over? Shame.”
- Everyone turned back to see Simon behind them. He was a more powerful man then Trevor was, which would explain why the latter greeted him with respect.
- On the other hand, when Lauren saw the man behind Simon, she froze in fear. The sight of Ethan filled her with dread and the urge to escape.
- She spent a thousand eight hundred and twenty-five nights in a hellish eternity, where everything she was became ash. On the other hand, Ethan was still unchanging and dazzling as ever. All he did was stand there, but still he radiated a blinding light. Even so, her love for him had gone with the wind from the moment he said he never loved her.
- Never had she expected to be reunited with him in this state. Lauren thought she would hate him, but when they met once again, she realized she didn’t even feel like feeling anything toward him. All she wanted now was to live happily with Riley, nothing else. She glanced at him for a moment and left.
- Suddenly, the aloof Ethan spoke, “Long time no see, Lauren. Aren’t you going to say hi?”
- Lauren suddenly stopped in her tracks. She started to shiver in fear, for she heard Ethan slowly advancing toward her. Finally, he stood centimeters away from her. “Look at me,” coldly, he said.
- Lauren clenched her fists and looked up at Ethan. She gave him a polite but distant smile, as if they had never met. “You must have gotten the wrong person, sir. I’m not the woman you called. I’m Mary, a singer here. If there’s nothing else, I shall be taking my leave now. Enjoy the rest of your evening, sir.”
- Ethan sneered at her and squinted. “I got the wrong person? Seems like prison didn’t teach you your lesson.”
- The mention of prison robbed her of her color. Even after five years, he still didn’t want to let her off the hook, not even when she had lost everything and was in a living hell. “I’m sorry, but I don’t understand what you’re saying.” She tried to maintain a calm composure, but her trembling body betrayed her thoughts.
- Ethan squinted at her, for this aloof, hopeless woman was a far cry from the cheerful Lauren. Even though he never smiled at her over the last ten years, she would still keep on smiling and tell everyone she would only marry Ethan. Is this really the same person? For some reason, Ethan felt anger bubbling within him when he saw her in this state.
- On the other hand, Simon smirked, for it wasn’t every day he could see Ethan having a change of expression. If it weren’t for Lauren, he would have thought Ethan had Bell’s palsy.
- A moment later, Ethan went up and grabbed Lauren’s hand. “Miss Mary, you say? Name your price, then. I want you to spend the night with me.”
- He thought Lauren would yell at him or call him a b*stard, but contrary to his belief, she looked up at him calmly. “I’m sorry, sir, but all I do is sing. Entertaining the guests in another way is up to my colleagues.”
