Chapter 23

• Mrs. Alfred walked into the mansion with a sad expression. As she delivered the news of Maya's death, a heavy silence fell over the room. Lillian's heart sank, tears streamed down her cheeks uncontrollably. She collapsed to the ground, overcome with sadness.
• Katherine, on the other hand, remained stoic and unmoved. Mrs. Alfred noticed Katherine's lack of emotion and gently asked, "Katherine, don't you feel any sadness about Maya's passing?"
• Katherine glanced at her mother with a cold expression as she rolled her eyes heavenward. "Why should I be sad? Maya wasn't family," she replied curtly.
