• Mandy sat in the cheerleading gymnasium, her anger simmering just beneath the surface. She was flanked by her two best friends, Martha and Lola. Martha, sitting cross-legged on the floor opposite Mandy, was equally furious. "We were all so happy until Katie showed up," Martha vented. "What are we going to do about her?"
• Lola, lounging on a nearby bench, offered a suggestion with a sly grin. "We could plot something really bad against her."
