Chapter 229 Cracking The Enigma Puzzle
- "…"Wynter's remarks surprised Gary, who was still impressionable and immature. His eyes strayed as though they were going to turn on him. Fanny stepped in right away and said, "He's just trying to act tough." He insisted on coming out even though he wasn't fully cured. UPH hasn't finished. It was true that Gary had a cold. "I've missed you," he remarked in a scratchy voice. "All right, let's go inside," Dickson said. "We'll let Wynter sample some of our homemade food." With deft timing, the couple led Wynter inside the house.
- It was a multigenerational home inside. Dickson presented each of them individually: cousins-in-law, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. With the exception of the young cousin-in-law, who was only a few years older than Wynter, everyone else appeared to be rather normal. She was unkempt and carrying a youngster in her arms, her face blank. Before she eventually regained her composure, Wynter called out to her cousin-in-law a few times. “Oh, hello,” she said without a hint of a country accent. Wynter teased, "You're not a local, are you?" as she peered at the inside of her cousin-in-law's forearm.
- "I..." Yarra Raine gave Wynter a look as though she had something to say. Fanny gave her a backhand. Why are you blindly standing here, Yarra? The ribs are prepared. Why don't you go have some to eat? It was clear that she was implying danger. Yarra's eyes dropped instantly. Okay, I'd like someribs. She muttered to herself, "You have to eat meat to get tall." The childish comments caused Wynter to raise an eyebrow. "Is there something strange about her, Mom?" Fanny pointed to her head and said, "She has some issues." "She told everyone she was a city college student after she almost drowned once and woke up." Playing with the purple sugilite pendant around her waist, Wynter laughed.
