• “Are you sure you want to do this?” Kemi’s voice slid through the air like cold honey. It was a question, but it held a threat. The kind of quiet menace that made you think twice before answering. But I didn’t have the luxury of hesitation anymore. The pieces were falling into place, and no matter how much I hated it, I was in too deep.
• “I don’t have a choice, Kemi,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. I was standing in her office, the one place I’d avoided for months, the one place that reeked of secrets I wasn’t sure I could handle. Her face was the same as always—perfectly composed, but there was something in her eyes now, something that told me she knew the game was about to change. And she didn’t like it.
