Chapter 10
- “I’m not a fool, Cole,” Kemi’s voice cuts through the thick silence, her words deliberate. Her heels click against the marble floor as she approaches, the sound almost mocking. “I know what you’re doing.”
- I stand by the window, pretending to look out at the city below, trying to avoid the intensity in her gaze. The city seems distant from where I’m standing, and I wonder how much longer I can keep up this charade.
- “What do you think I’m doing, Kemi?” I reply, the calmness in my voice not matching the knot that’s forming in my stomach.
