- “I can’t keep doing this, Funmi,” Cole says, his voice low, a mixture of frustration and something else—fear, maybe? His gaze is fixed on me, but his expression is unreadable. “I don’t trust her. I don’t trust anyone anymore.”
- His words hit harder than I expected, a deep ache forming in my chest. Kemi’s pregnancy, the tension between us, the lies—it’s all too much. I glance at him, but I can’t find the words to answer. How can I? How can I explain the tangled mess I’m stuck in?
