Chapter 15

• “Are you sure this is a good idea?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper as I stood in the massive entryway of Cole’s mansion. The marble floors seemed to stretch endlessly beneath me, and the high ceilings felt like they might swallow me whole.
• Cole’s hand was warm against my back, a small, reassuring touch, but his words were anything but comforting. “You’re here now, Funmi. We’re in this together, remember?”
• Together. The word echoed in my mind as I watched him lead me through the grand hallway. Each step felt heavier than the last, as though the weight of the house, the weight of the decision to move in here, was settling onto my shoulders.
