Chapter 12
- “Are you really going to pretend nothing’s wrong, Kemi?” Funmi’s voice was low, her words hanging in the air like a threat. We were sitting in the spacious living room, but it felt smaller now, like the walls were closing in around us. Kemi sat across from me, a glass of wine in her hand, her eyes calm, but something about her posture made my skin crawl.
- “What do you mean, Funmi?” Kemi replied, her smile tight, the faintest hint of irritation flickering across her face. “Nothing’s wrong. Everything’s fine.”
- “Don’t lie to me.” Funmi’s voice sharpened, and I could feel the tension between them growing, thick and suffocating. The air was different now, more charged than I had ever felt before. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, unsure of what was happening, but sensing it wasn’t good.
