Chapter 4 The Enrollment

  • Bianca’s POV:
  • Everyone in the room gazed at Mother and the old woman as she almost inhibited adequate air from passing through the old lady. Slowly, she got her hands off the old lady’s mouth with a piercing gaze at me. Every other person had a striking look at my mother and the old lady but I turned away in exasperation.
  • “What was it you wanted to say, grandma?” Mike asked almost mockingly.
  • “What? I wanted to say that you’re the lady from the human bar. Not long ago I visited one and found you there, where you revealed your werewolf status to me. What did you think I was gonna say?” the woman asked, grimacing at my mother.
  • “Oh, that. I’m sorry, I didn’t remember it was at the bar we met,” my mom said with clenched teeth and looked at me with the side of her eyes.
  • “Where else have you seen me? Please, don’t do that again. You almost made me have a heart attack,” Dandy’s grandmother said and began walking back into the kitchen to return the jug filled with red wine.
  • My mother sat down in embarrassment and relief when the woman broke out. I knew there was more to that than the grandmother actually said. She was diffidently relieved and went to the kitchen to have a chat with the grandmother.
  • “Where are you going?” Alpha Ethan asked my mother, concernedly.
  • “I’m going to apologize to your mother,” my mother said and walked into the kitchen.
  • “Wow,” Teresa broke in disgust after a brief silence.
  • “Teresa you should know that Bianca is now a part of this family and a part of the house,” Alpha Ethan suggested, using his fork to cut a chunk of chicken.
  • “What are you saying, Dad? Teresa has known this family longer than Bianca has. Bianca has no better right in this house than Teresa,” Jonah said in mild anger and irritation.
  • I gazed at Jonah and wondered why he would defend someone who was not his fated mate. She could probably break him at any moment. It was evident by their characteristics: the Luna Goddess would never approve of such coupling. Quadruplets, especially identical quadruplets, usually had one mate tied to them but they had different girlfriends already, which was evident of the bond they didn’t share.
  • “I meant no harm, Jonah. You’ve got to chill. I’m not chasing your girlfriend away from the house,” Alpha Ethan apologized.
  • A few minutes after the last chat, my mother and their grandmother came out smiling at each other and helping each other out. I noticed an unusual bond between the both of them, which was eccentric. After they had settled for dinner, Alpha Ethan remembered something.
  • “Bianca, since you’re new in this area, maybe you’d consider being new to a school. An expensive school where you’d have everything you need,” Alpha Ethan said with a bright expression.
  • “That’d be great, hon. What do you think?” my mother agreed with Alpha Ethan.
  • “Thank you. My old school is cheaper and very accessible to me. I’ve already started a foundation there and wouldn’t like to leave it halfway,” I rejected his proposal. I couldn’t bear learning with these quadruplets daily.
  • “This is an opportunity of a lifetime you’re tossing in the air, Bianca,” my mother said, worried.
  • “I know, mom. I just can’t afford to do things the wrong way,” I struck, shaking my head to the negative.
  • “It’s Star Side Elite Academy, Bianca. It’s a high school everyone would love to be,” Alpha Ethan pressed.
  • “She’s just said she doesn’t want to come to our school. Why not leave her be,” Mike said in exasperation.
  • “He didn’t press this way when Mom was about to leave,” Dandy said in a low tone.
  • “Look, Dandy, I’m sick of you attacking me because of your mother. I’ve already told you that you’re free to visit her anytime you wish so far as you know the way to her house.”
  • “You’re attacking your son because of son cheap woman’s daughter you found on the street? Great father you are,” Dandy said and stood up sharply to leave.
  • “Dandy common. It’s not like that,” Ethan pleaded warmly, but it fell on deaf ears.
  • I could see that my mother was hurt by Dandy’s words and began eating slowly. Their grandmother slightly chuckled when Dandy left angrily, while the others made death stares at me.
  • “He’s gonna come back. Just give him some time. He really misses his mother,” the grandmother said with a dainty smile.
  • There was an uncomfortable silence that lingered. I and my mother were being blamed for the recent trouble the family had by the stares the other brothers gave me. I felt strongly embarrassed even when I was not watched by a massive number of people.
  • “So, nobody’s gonna talk about the chicken? A human friend taught me how to prepare it,” the grandmother said.
  • “It’s lovely, ma’am,” Madeleine said with a smile on her face.
  • “Thank you,” the grandmother replied and had a sip of her wine.
  • Alpha Ethan seemed to have not gotten over the insult Dandy had just rendered him. He clanged his fork on the ceramic dish briefly before looking at Kel’s worried expression.
  • “Bianca, you need to grab this opportunity by the horns,” my mother said.
  • “I don’t think I’d go to an elite college. I wouldn’t have many friends and everyone would see me as some jerk,” I said as though I were deprived of livelihood.
  • “They’d not see you as a jerk if you were dressed like them. And behaved like them too,” Alpha Ethan said with a happy expression.
  • “The thing is, we’ve already paid the fees for the school and wouldn’t be able to make a refund,” my mother said.
  • “What?” Mike broke out, “I can’t believe you. I can’t believe you,” he added and dropped his dinner.
  • Madeleine followed him behind for support. She didn’t enjoy the violence and malice that had been going on at dinner.
  • “You’re unbelievable and erratic, Dad. You paid over ten thousand cannis dollars for this local champ to attend an Elite college?” Jonah said with a sneer.
  • “We had to. She’s family now and deserves to be in the same school as you guys,” Alpha Ethan said.
  • Jonah quietly pushed his plate forward and noisily scraped his chair backwards against the tiled floor.
  • “I’m done eating,” he said and stood up. Teresa followed him behind after she had thrown me severe ominous gazes.
  • The only person that was left on the table was the eccentric Kel. I worried about him, but he was the thickest of all.
  • We soon finished our dinner and I was directed to my room. It was a well-furnished room with elegant curtains and large shelves. It was a queen-sized bed I had never imagined myself lying on. I sat on the chair and contemplated within myself what could be the real thing behind my mother and the quadruplet grandmother.
  • There was a portrait of a beautiful woman on the wall, perhaps the quadruplets’ mother. Maybe that had been her room or a forgotten portrait of her. Then, the loud and continuous bang on my door began to sound.
  • I rushed to open the door in anger, only to find out that it was the quadruplets, which alleviated my anger a bit. I watched them as they were prepared to say whatever they had cooked up.
  • “Unfortunately, we’re going to be schoolmates. And schoolmates do attend each other’s parties, play together, spend time together…” Mike said.
  • “They date, sometimes, too,” Dandy interrupted.
  • “Tell each other secrets nobody knows; play with each other’s toys,” Kel said expressionlessly.
  • “We have to be lucid about this. I don’t think she’s brilliant enough to get the sarcasm in our statement,” Jonah said smarmily.
  • “We don’t want you speaking with us at school. That’s the whole point. That’s why all of us are here so that you’d know it’s a collaborative intention,” Dandy broke out with a wicked smile.
  • “The day you dared to talk to us, your throat would be ripped out of your body and I’ll hang it on the entrance of the school’s hallway,” Kel said with a sneer.
  • “It’d be best if you acted like a starring slut and stay away from us,” Mike suggested.
  • “And that’s all we have to tell you. See you in Star Side Elite Academy tomorrow not talking to us,” Dandy said with a mischievous smile, while his brothers began to leave.
  • “Goodbye,” Jonah said scornfully.
