Chapter 46 Escape
- Every second counted at that moment, or so Lawson thought in that situation. The assassins hadn't just retreated and besides, they refused to leave the area, as if knowing that what they were looking for was there, even if they couldn't find it. Their developed sense of smell was following their trail and detected the pheromones in the environment, especially those of her in heat. But luckily the water was helping to divert them a little from the spotlight.
- Still the soldier was tense. He buried the face of for that moment, an unconscious Raven, to at least feel her breathing against his neck and make sure she was alive. If his mate died in his arms he would regret it all his life and he was sure that because of his soul link he would have a hard time getting over it if she did. But he was sure that would not be the case. Raven was a strong one. Though her breathing so slow he feared it would stop at any moment.
- Only her heartbeat that was steady told him that her condition was not as critical as it could be. These were strong against his chest, as were her pheromones. His body had not stopped expelling them at all times making him feel aroused even in this situation but he used all his willpower to restrain himself. It was neither the time nor the place. When they returned to the motel he would sit down, with a cooler mind to analyze the situation.
