Chapter 14
- Sitting next to Dante in the vehicle, the words he had just spoken echoed in my ears. Diana Contini and Dante had been past lovers, a revelation that left me surprised and somewhat uncomfortable. The silence inside the Bugatti La Voiture Noire was almost deafening.
- “So, you and Diana Contini... were past lovers?” I asked, my voice hesitant. I couldn't contain my curiosity about the relationship between him and the woman who had suddenly appeared in our afternoon.
- Dante sighed, as if he wasn't surprised by my question, and began to tell their story. When they were young, he had been sent on a mission to Milan, and Diana, coincidentally, was in the city for work reasons. Both were interested in closing a deal with the same partner, and as a result, they competed against each other. What started as rivalry eventually turned into something akin to a Romeo and Juliet romance.
