Chapter 126

  • DANTE'S POV
  • I was only eight years old, lying on the enormous bed of my parents, Lucrezia and Salvatore Mancuso, with my three brothers Matteo, Luca, and Massimo. The bed felt like a boat in a sea of stories, and that night, we were eager to hear another parable from our mother. Lucrezia was very religious, and as usual, she opened her Bible with care and affection.
  • “Tonight, boys, I will tell you the parable of the Good Samaritan,” she said, her gentle voice filling the room. “It's in the book of Luke, chapter ten, verses 25 to 37. This story teaches us about loving and helping even those considered our enemies.”
