• John approached Ellis, his steps hesitant. He looked at her with an expression that mixed anxiety and hope. “Ellis,” he began, his voice soft, “can you fulfill your part and distance yourself from Vittorio Amorielle?” His tone was a blend of request and pleading.
• Ellis lifted her eyes from her phone and met John's gaze. There was determination in her expression, but also a deep sadness. She sighed and handed him the phone. “No, John,” she replied firmly.
• Surprise flashed across John's face. “What do you mean by 'no'?” he asked, his voice carrying disbelief.
