• Ellis was engrossed in analyzing the details of the house and discussing possible modifications and improvements with the team. They were debating the structure of the windows when her phone began to ring. John's number flashed on the screen, causing Ellis to pause for a moment. She felt a mix of emotions seeing his name there, but then she remembered the promise she had made to Donna. With a resigned sigh, she answered the call. “Hi, John.”
• John's voice sounded through the phone. “Hey, Ellis. How was it with Donna today? Did you guys make it to school on time and everything?”
• Ellis replied, her tone a bit softer now that she was talking to him. “Yes, everything went well. Donna even asked if you could pick her up, but she made it clear that doesn't mean she forgives you, just that she's thinking about it.”
