Chapter 34

• Ellis Smith held the cell phone with a trembling hand, still processing the words she had heard from the police officer at the other end of the line. Rocco stared at her with a questioning look and asked, "Who was it?"
• Ellis blinked a few times as if coming out of a trance. She looked at Rocco and answered, still somewhat dazed, "It was the police. They were looking for you and Jake."
• Rocco raised an eyebrow, a puzzled look in his eyes. He seemed to be contemplating what this could mean. "Police? What did they want?"
