Chapter 55 Charlotte’s Desire

• I tried my utmost best to avoid Charlotte and even went so far as to bring forward my plans to return to the city, but it so damn happened that she was also going to the city today to pick up her child. If I’d known that, I’d have gone with my initial plan of going back tomorrow. Nonetheless, since things had come to this, I could only face it, for there was no other recourse. After bidding farewell to my parents and Ethan, I drove and left with Charlotte. The entire trip was spent in silence, for I dared not say a single word to her. I didn’t even dare to touch the gearshift throughout the drive, although I used to shift the car into neutral gear when I stopped. Now, however, the gear was always in drive, and I’d hit the brakes while waiting for the red light. It was all because I was afraid that I might accidentally touch Charlotte who was in the passenger seat. If I touched her, I didn’t dare guarantee that she’d remain purely my cousin-in-law…
• While I didn’t say anything, Charlotte suddenly spoke after remaining silent for half the drive, “Woodie, didn’t you find a girlfriend in the city?”
• “No. I want to focus on work first. I’m in no hurry to find a girlfriend.” I didn’t dare say that I had a girlfriend, for if she mentioned it when she went back, and my family insisted on meeting her, who should I bring home? I couldn’t bring all of them, including the young married ladies and a student. She went quiet once more, and I stole a peek at her, only to see her face flushed, although I had no idea why. I had the air conditioner blasting after all, so it was rather cool in the car.
