- Winona held her wallet in one hand and a stack of hundred-dollar bills in the other. She was dumbfounded as she watched Enrique exit the building and disappear into the dimly lit street. For a moment, she found the back of the man who ran a grill to be majestic.
- It was two in the morning. On the other side of the city, in a luxurious mansion, Irena sat on a bed in her pajamas. "Mom, I've already told you that I'm moving out tomorrow. I have to do this."
- A middle-aged woman sat beside Irena, trying to persuade her daughter for nearly two hours, but to no avail. "Why do you insist on moving out? What's so bad about staying with us? Do you dislike the idea of living with us so much? Do you not like us?"
