Chapter 12 Winona Schmidt
- "Of course I missed you, Annie," Enrique sat by the bedside, speaking to the little girl. "I think of you every day, but I've had to work hard to make sure I can get you toys. That's why I couldn't be here until now." This marked the first time in Enrique's life that he had conversed with a child in the role of a father, and he couldn't help but feel a touch of awkwardness. His cheeks even flushed slightly as he expressed himself.
- "Toys, toys! Daddy, what toys did you bring me?" the little girl exclaimed with excitement. "Mommy said you were going to bring me lots and lots of toys when you came back." At the mere mention of toys, the young girl's enthusiasm bubbled forth.
- "Er..." Enrique turned to the girl's mother, dumbfounded.
