• Sebastian pulled up Jocelyn’s phone number on his phone before making a call without any further hesitation. The ringing went on for a while before Jocelyn picked it up. Then, Sebastian found himself greeted with an excessively formal tone and choice of words. “Is anything the matter, Mr. Davis?” He couldn’t deny the hurt he felt when she treated him so coldly. However, he also knew that there was nothing else he could do about it. Nothing’s going to change regardless of how sad I feel, right?
• He felt his vocal cords trembling as he struggled to construct a sentence in his mind. “I would like to have a discussion with you in person, Miss McBride. Why don’t we meet somewhere for lunch?”
• She felt rather puzzled by his sudden request, and she hesitated for a moment before she finally gave him a firm rejection. “I don’t think there’s a need for that. We don’t have much to discuss between us.” After a slight pause, she went on to say, “If you really have something important that you’d like to tell me, you can just do it over the phone. I really don’t think there’s a need for us to meet up. A meeting wouldn’t do good for either one of us.”
