Chapter 5

  • 6 years later…
  • Caleb was running late. He was invited to a dinner meeting with a few other magazine company’s. He had been working on his photography for a magazine for a few years now. But he was extremely excited when they invited him to dine with them and apparently the exclusive owner of one of the biggest magazine would be there. He had to meet them and show them his photography. He wanted his work in that magazine for years now. And maybe this was his chance.
  • When he arrived at the resort he went in and told a waitress who he was. They saw his name on the guest book for a privately dinner that was being held in the back corner of the restaurant.
  • “Right this way sir.” She said politely making her way through the large setting of tables and groups of people eating. It was a very exclusive restaurant so only certain people dinned here.
  • He kept following the waitress till he recognized one of the publishers Arthur, he was seated with a two other publishers he had heard of and briefly meet before. They were all seated at the very far back of the restaurant, away from everyone else.
  • He straighten his tie and continued to follow the waitress. As he got closer he saw another person hidden behind two of the Publishers. The closer he got the more he noticed about the person till he realized it was a woman. She looked young but he couldn’t really tell. Her face was looking down at the menu in her hand. Her brown wavy hair covering part of her face. While the other half of her hair was tucked behind her ear. She was the only one seated in the booth while the other publishers surrounded her in chairs.
  • But then she looked up as he walked right up to the table. And his heart sunk. He knew those eyes. Those beautiful piercing hazel green eyes.
  • Harper.
  • When she looked up her gaze fell on the person approaching their table. She knew the publishers had wanted her to meet this exclusive photographer that had made his way up the ladder quite quickly.
  • She had seen some of his work and she had to agree it was really good. So she didn’t disagree to have a meeting. Having a photographer like him could change her magazine for the best. And she had been looking for a new photographer for a while.
  • But when she looked up and saw the man walking towards her, her eyes widened and her heart began to race.
  • *I’m hallucinating. I’m not seeing clearly. My vision must have gone out because…*
  • As the tall man approached the table she could swear he looked just like…
  • Caleb.
  • They stared at each other for a moment before Arthur stood up and spoke. “Ms. Black this was the photographer we’ve told you about. This is Caleb.”
  • *Ms. Black? Was Harper married?*
  • Harper took a brief moment to compose herself before she spoke. “It’s nice to meet you Caleb. Arthur here has told me a lot about your work. Why don’t you have a seat.”
  • Caleb caught himself still staring at Harper, he couldn’t help it but quickly replied “of course”. She was never an ugly woman but when she was in high school she had a different look. A carefree cute teenage look. But the woman that sat in front of him was nothing of the sort. She was drop dead gorgeous. She was wearing a tight black dress that only showed her curves her hair was long and beautiful. The waves that cascaded down her back. Part of her hair tucked behind one ear showing her slim neck line. And what he could see was a small tattoo behind her ear. But he couldn’t make out what it was. Her complexion was sinful. Her flawless fair skin and those darn freckles that captivated her cheeks. Her rosy pink lips were a dark shade of red. She was always beautiful but this. This was a whole another level of beautiful.
  • Caleb quickly snapped out of gaze and realized he wasn’t sure what was happening. By the look she gave him the moment she saw him she had recognized him.
  • But then her expression changed in an instant and she was pretending not to know him now. And her last name. Was she married now? Her maiden name was Bing. Wasn’t it?
  • Arthur and the other publishers spoke amongst themselves for a while. Harper being included on a few topics but didn’t give Caleb a glance the whole time. Even when she spoke to him she kept her eyes looking at other things.
  • “Did you bring your portfolio Mr…” her voiced trailed off as she looked up at Arthur.
  • “Mr. Knight.” Arthur finished for her.
