Chapter 114

  • It was an ordinary Tuesday at B&H Publishing. The sun filtered through the large windows of the office, casting warm patterns on the floor. Gemma Knight sat at her desk, immersed in a new manuscript. Her brow was slightly furrowed as she flipped through the pages, occasionally jotting down notes on her notepad. The hum of printers and the soft murmurs of her coworkers created a comforting background noise that usually helped her focus.
  • Gemma had settled into her role, appreciating the challenge of juggling both receptionist duties and her aspirations as a budding editor. She loved the thrill of discovering new voices and stories, immersing herself in the intricacies of each manuscript. Today, however, as she read, an unsettling thought nagged at her mind, one that had become more prominent in recent weeks.
  • It was a fleeting shadow that passed through her consciousness, a reminder of her past that she desperately wanted to forget. She shook her head, pushing it away as she honed in on the text in front of her. It was the only way she could maintain some semblance of normalcy.
