Chapter 2

  • Caleb headed to class and gave his note to his teacher excusing him for his tardyness.
  • He couldn’t help not paying attention the teacher and class assignment for the day. He kept thinking of Harper and those hazel eyes that looked up at him from the floor. The corner of her eyes filling with tears as she tried so hard to hold them back. The blood that dripped down the side of her face.
  • He was brought back when the bell rang for dismissal. As he was walking he saw Harper grabbing her backpack and heading out with a small limp.
  • Caleb started to pick up his pace so he could catch up with her.
  • “Caleb!” It was Bethany. “Are you coming by after school.”
  • “No.”
  • “But baby.” She said in a low cute tone.
  • Caleb turned to Bethany. He hated her little names and cute tones she used on him. He was sure she thought they were cute. But they annoyed him.
  • “Beth, I’ll see you tomorrow at the game.” Pushing her hand down that she had placed on his arm. He then turned and walked away.
  • Bethany eyes followed him till she saw that he walked all the way to Harper. And her face became red with anger.
  • “Harper!”
  • Harper turned around to see Caleb walking to her.
  • “I’m glad to see you feeling a bit better.”
  • “Oh. Yeah.” She said blushing.
  • “How about I help you with that. And I walk you home.” He said grabbing her backpack from her and putting it on.
  • Harpers eyes widen seeing him wearing her backpack on his stomach caused a small laughter to slip.
  • “What?” He said with a smile.
  • “Oh nothing.” Holding back her amusement. But he could see it made her laugh. Which made him feel a bit better than how he had been feeling since finding her hurt earlier.
  • They talked about the yearbook and about photography. Football and recruiters all the way to her front porch.
  • “Here you go.” Caleb said handing her, her backpack.
  • “Thank you for walking me. You really didn’t have to though.”
  • “Oh I didn’t mind at all plus I live just over there. So your house is on the way.”
  • Harper blushed. She knew where he lived. She had seen him outside all the time. “Yeah. I know.” She said shyly. “But, thank you” and she quickly ran inside.
  • Caleb giggled and then walked home.
  • The next day Harper walked to school like normal. As she entered the school she could see Morgan at her locker and was ready to go and talk to her when Bethany and her posey jumped in front of her.
  • “I thought I warned you.”
  • Harper ignored her and tried to walk around but Bethany just pushed her.
  • “Bethany!” She yelled as she hit the floor.
  • “I didn’t give you permission to say my name.”
  • “What the hell is your problem.” She said as she stood back up.
  • “You are!”
  • Harper took a deep breath in. “You’re childish.”
  • Bethany’s eyes widen with anger. “You little Bit…” but the word was cut off as the schools counselor Mrs.
  • Dean called out her name.
  • “Bethany Rogers!” She called.
  • Bethany’s face turned a shade of pink in embarrassment which caused Harper to laugh.
  • Bethany of course gave her a death stare. And then turned to Mrs. Dean.
  • Harper took the opportunity and ran off, she didn’t care to listen to that conversation. Though most of the hallways could hear her getting scolded for being a bully. Harper got to Morgan in a jiffy.
  • “Morgan, Morgan!”
  • Morgan looked from behind her locker door and smiled as Harper ran to her.
  • “Caleb walked me home yesterday!”
  • “Hello to you too.”
  • “Hi. How are you. Did you hear what I said. Caleb. Walked. ME. Home.”
  • Morgan giggled. “Girl you got it bad.”
  • Harpers expression changed from happy to annoyed. “No I don’t.”
  • “If you say so.” She said closing her locker.
  • “I do say so.”
  • “Mmmhhhhmmm… oh look it Caleb!”
  • “Where?” Harper frantically looked around. And then turned back annoyed. “Nice. Real nice.”
  • Morgan broke out in laughter, “but your reaction was priceless.”
  • Harper rolled her eyes and walked towards her class.
  • “Wait. Wait for me. I was just messing with you.” She yelled as she ran after Harper and locked arms with her.
