Chapter 8 Luna Arena

  • There was this time I recall vividly about the past, Patrick had set a duel for me and Anika over some dress we were fighting for. As a twin, we were supposed to wear matching outfits but he didn't buy two of everything like he usually does. The reason I don't know but I know I wanted that dress and so did Anika. I remember him telling us the rules of the game.
  • " First to draw blood wins and if none of you can do that then I'm burning that dress. Ann, Nicky I'm sure you don't want that right? " He says our famous nicknames which meant he was serious. He'd drop two daggers on the floor while he stood watching and waiting for the first to pick it up. I remember being the one to do so.
  • " Good girl. Now, look at the dagger and imagine what you want. The pretty dress right? Look at her, she's keeping you from getting it. She's an obstacle you need to eliminate. She's no longer your sister but your enemy " but I didn't get what he said cos all I could see was my sister. Dad always sees enemies and drawing blood repulsed me and let's not forget. I was only eight.
  • When Anika picked up the other dagger, dad walked up to her and whispered something into her ears. Her chest was heaving within seconds with her dilated pupils then she rushed at me. I, being a coward dropped the dagger and ran. Yes, I ran and ran thinking she was hot on my heels till I couldn't run anymore and I was right to run cos she was behind me when I spun around.
  • " Someone has to own that beautiful dress and it's you, Anika. So do it. draw the first blood. Be the winner" I started shaking and I think that caused her to hesitate. That hesitation was a big mistake. It's a day I can never forget. It's the first time I knew Patrick Beaumont hated my guts.
  • That's why I'm not going to lose this time not because I'm a trained assassin but because there's someone up there looking down on me and I want to please him. Prove him wrong. Do whatever but I know I'm not gonna lose no matter what.
  • My opponent is a silver-haired girl probably in her late twenties with muscles. Muscly body like a man. You can tell she knows what she's doing by her stance and those eyes of hers like a predator; a hunter and if I'm right, there's hatred too. She's standing in the middle of the arena with no armor, shield, or weapon.
  • How convenient.
  • " Welcome to the Luna arena. Savannah, the head of female warriors has challenged your Luna to a duel. Hopefully, she doesn't disappoint because I would hate to witness such hubris. Anyway, the victor gets to restore their honor. I know it means a lot to them. Honor. Now let the fight begin "Alpha Callan announces while on his feet. The crowd howled to acknowledge their leader and they weren't wrong to do so. Callan's aura can move a mountain.
  • Which is odd even for an Alpha.
  • Lost and overwhelmed by his strong aura, I reacted late as Savannah aimed for my jaw. Her fist connected with my jaw which sent me flying a few feet away from her. The crowd cheers for her while I look at Stephen who shakes his head then at Callan, who had a blank face like it's what he had predicted.
  • Standing on my feet, I rub my jaw, tasting copper in my mouth then spit it out. Thanks to my werewolf gene I can feel the wound healing already. So, it wasn't that painful anymore.
  • Without waiting for me to get myself together, she aims for me again and this time she's planning to cause fatal damage but I dodge out of the way jabbing my legs into hers causing her to stumble back trying to stabilize her footing but I acted quickly by grabbing one of her legs and twisted it. She tries kicking me off, her eyes turning greenish and fangs appearing in her mouth but I was fast to twist the other one earning a guttural roar from her causing the arena into a deafening silence.
  • No, that wasn't enough for me as I reached for her arms that had claws and did the same before I snapped her neck. No, I didn't kill her but I'd put her to sleep before she starts healing herself. Hauling myself off her, I pushed her unconscious body away panting still fixing my broken jaw which would have been disfigured if I wasn't a werewolf.
  • The auditorium is still quiet, I'm sure I'll hear a pin drop at this moment then I turned around to look at the alpha who looks displeased but was trying to hide it, and let's not talk about his beta's face.
  • He didn't believe it.
  • That's okay with me. I'm used to people underestimating me.
  • The medical team ran into the field to attend to Savannah then hauled her in a stretcher and just like that, the crowd erupts in wails of cheers and howls. My heart almost leaps out of my chest from the shock of seeing them cheering for me.
  • " Ladies and gentlemen, our Luna is the winner. For the first time in history, a Luna had emerged winner of the Luna arena. Our Luna" Steph announces while I furrow my brow. Like seriously, no Luna has ever won? I'd be thrilled to be the first if only I was a Luna.
  • The pack members howls in victory, beating drums and gongs that I couldn't help but laugh at the thought of being recognized by the pack.
  • Her pack.
  • I wave and tried howling, yeah I forgot I can't do that.
  • Manny runs into the field with a smiling face like he's proud of his Luna. I chuckle, then nod at him. He looks at the cheering crowd and then at me, bearing his neck to me which others imitate. My heart swelled with their kind gesture thus I nod which didn't last long as a growl reverberate
  • d through the auditorium.
  • Holy cow.
