• “Freya?” Callum called out. No response came. He rubbed at his neck in discomfort and moved closer. She was unmoving and blood appeared to be flowing from her head to the ground.
• He gulped hard and felt her pulse. Callum cursed under his breath at the eventuality of his action. Not only had her breath seized, she couldn’t be revived. Freya was dead. Covering his eyes with both hands, he groaned like a wounded lion. This wasn’t supposed to end like that. The only death he intends to have on his hands next is Ronan’s.
