Chapter 33

  • Damian woke up earlier than usual. He couldn't sleep. Every time he closed his eyes, he had visions and dreams of Lilian and none of them were good. Before he went to bed, he had one of the guards come in and peek at her from under her door. He reported that he saw her lying quietly on the floor and that she didn't stir or move when he knocked.
  • He looked at his watch, it was 5 am. He got up from bed and went to have a look at Lilian. He however didn't go with the keys, lest it was all a trick. He got to her room and looked under her door and he could just make out the figure of her body lying motionlessly on the floor in the same position that was described to him last night. He knocked and called her name but she didn't stir or move. There was a problem. He hurried back to his room and got the keys. He unlocked the door and went into the room. Lilian had not moved a muscle and didn't even flinch when the door was unlocked. Damian gingerly walked towards her and looked at her face. She was very pale, her breathing was very weak and she felt very cold. Damian carried her from the floor and put her on the bed. He took a good look at her eyes. Her eyelids were red and puffy and he could make out the blue and red veins on them and her lips were parched. She was in a terrible state but very much alive. He rang his doctor and he came in shortly. The time was 6 am and the house was busy. Damian and the doctor were in Lilian's room; she hadn't stirred at all. The doctor shook his head and placed her on a drip. Damian couldn't stay and had to go to work. The doctor stayed back and watched Lilian. After a while, Lilian began to come round. She moved a finger, then her hand, and soon her eyes fluttered open.
  • "Miss Mendez? How are you feeling?"
