Chapter 19
- Work went ok for Lilian except for the occasional stares at her bruised forehead. A few people did ask her what happened to her and her reply was that she hit her head on a shelf. A wise few however didn't need to be told what happened to her as they had seen Damian's bruised nose earlier. She had not made any friends at work because she mostly kept to herself and Damian was a strict employee. She put a pen in her pocket and felt the money that the old man had given her. Her escape plan was coming together. She had paid $5 as a bus fare and still had $195 left. It was more than enough to get her home from any part of New York. Unless of course, the business even wasn't in New York but in another city or country together. She erased the idea of it being anywhere else but New York from her mind. The event was on Saturday so she had less than five days to get all the necessary info that she needed.
- She finished with file delivery and went off to get coffee. She could have equally escaped then but she didn't want to be hasty about it. She got to the coffee shop and made the order. Soon she had two carriers filled and was on the way back to the office. Everyone took their individual order and she carried hers and Damian's to Damian's office. She however didn't see him. He had probably not come back from a meeting or something. She took a donut that was on a plate on the guest table and sat down to enjoy her coffee. As she ate, she heard the bathroom door open. Damian walked out and soon they locked eyes. Lilian didn't break her gaze. She looked him fiercely in the eyes while she took a bite of her sugar-coated donut.
- Damian looked away first. He didn't have time to condone her insolence. He sat down to his coffee and croissant and looked through some documents as he ate. They didn't speak to each other. There was definitely still tension over Sunday's events.
