• I wake up in a pitch-black room and realize immediately that I'm not in my bed, I'm not at my house, and I'm not with Miguel.
• I roll around, attempting to settle in like a freshly caught fish. I've noticed that I've gained weight, that my breasts feel heavier, and that my sense of smell has improved recently. This morning, the scent of lavender was powerful in the villa, and I blinked. Nope. Unable to get any sleep. Miguel's warm, robust physique and heavy leg encircling me are missing.
• Despite sleeping like a dead person, I feel strangely refreshed. I am still determining what time it is. For all I know, it might be midnight, four in the morning, or one in the afternoon. I reach for my phone in the dark. I repeatedly hit the home button, and when it doesn't turn on, I mumble a curse.
