Chapter 37
- Peering into two pots on the stove, I stand in Miki's rental house's kitchen. Boiling water is in one, and tomato sauce is in the other. I've checked the pots four times now. I'm getting anxious since he's running late.
- I use a wooden spoon to stir a pot while staring at the bubbles and becoming lost in gloomy thoughts. I'm swirling water—why am I doing this? What is his location? He's been gone for much longer than the hour or two the interview was supposed to last. I pick up my phone. It's been nearly four hours now. I open the phone and hang up.
- No. I don't need to follow up with him. As I go through my iPhone's inbox, a call comes in. Amelia is here, not even bothering to say hello.
