Chapter 53

  • Living in a convent for unwed mothers wasn't so bad until after she had the baby and she was released. Her father had sent money in a form of donations, but he would not even come to visit, let alone take her back after. Her mother had come to visit once, and the look of heartbreak on her beautiful face made Lilly angry and wished her away. Who would have known that years later she would be burying them together. She hadn't made it to the funeral or memorial services but when she came back to New Orleans she claimed her entitlement. She worked hard to become a pillar of the community.
  • Isabella had expected her to return after her trip to New Orleans, but the feeling of being back home was overwhelming and she did not want to leave. Once she received her inheritance, she sent Isabella a check and a little extra for Millie to have her room. She and Millie never spoke again, as when she didn't come back, Millie had died of pneumonia.
  • Taking the money that was left, she hired Rosenwald Carrier one of the best attorneys in New Orleans. He represented her in taking over the brewery that Tyler Mayer and his best friend owned. They were doing more than brewing beer and were making counterfeit money and she was able to turn them in to the government. They got fifty years in prison and only ten years ago, Tyler died of AIDS and his friend Tommy had gotten killed in a prison fight many years before.
