Chapter 31

• I was just about to walk out the door when my doorbell rung. I peeked out the window to see a black town car parked out front of my house. I grabbed the bat that stayed by the door and answered.
• "Hello, my name is Simon, Mr. McCain's driver for the night. He asked me to pick you up and take you to the Barcade Patio for the evening."
• "Oh, okay," I said sliding the bat into place. Simon was a tall brother with dark hair and dark eyes. He was wearing a black suit and shining black shoes. He seem to watch my every move as I walked to the car and it made me a little nervous. I wondered if he knew why he was picking me up or was he curious as to why he was picking me up? The ride to downtown was less than twenty minutes. Simon looked back at me through the rear view mirror. I smiled the first time but then after that I stared at my phone or pretended to dial a number and talk to someone.
