Chapter 212 " A Smile That Hides Her Agony

  • As the days go by, Rebecca's heart remains shattered. Clinging to the hope of a resolution, she finds refuge in the rare moments of serenity with her children in the hospital room, her moments of peace amidst the daily storm. After a month since the fateful event that submerged them in a wave of suffering, Rebecca is allowed to return home. Even with Alex still in the intensive care unit, she is granted permission to stay by his side.
  • Upon entering the room and coming face to face with the man who always radiated strength, now enveloped in fragility, connected to a complex network of machines, tears flow and she slowly approaches the bed. Sitting in the chair next to him, she tenderly holds his hand, rests her head on his chest, capturing the delicate beats of the heart that, although weakened, still pulses with the promise of life. With her free hand, she gently caresses the sleeping face of the man she loves so much.
  • "My love, I can feel you here. The beats of your heart are like a melody that surrounds me, a constant reminder that you are still here. Please, do not prolong this suffering. I have learned my lesson, do not punish me anymore, it hurts too much. You promised that you would marry me again. You won't break your promise, will you? Come back soon, please, Alex. I miss you so much that every second without you feels like an eternity. Don't make me wait. Come back to me, please. I love you, Alex. Come back to us. Don't take too long, my love, we want to go home with you." She whispers, tears flowing uncontrollably. "I can visualize the things you dreamed for us. I see you at the altar, with a smile as I walk towards you. I can't wait to marry you again. I won't give up on you, Mr. Baker. I know you won't leave me alone here. No matter how long it takes, I will be waiting for you. When you wake up, I'll be here, my love. You know I'm a bit silly, I'll make mistakes without you here to help me. So, stop this game and come back soon." She murmurs, lifting her head and observing his face with intensity, wishing for him to open his eyes. "You are the best man I know, a perfect husband, an exceptional father, an incredible friend. Except for our children, surely the others, including me, don't deserve you. If you can forgive me, I promise I'll be better. I've never expressed this, but I am completely grateful for all the love you dedicated to me and for every care you had for me throughout these years. Invading your room was the best decision of my life. I love you, Alex, and I will always love you." She concludes, kissing his forehead, immersed in the intense hope of his recovery, her heart yearning for him, and she will wait for him, no matter how long, in anticipation of a new beginning.
