Chapter 44

• The police remove Amara and then escort Beatrice and the thug off in custody. Leo exhales a relieved breath. It's been a long day. Even after they realized Amara was safe, it wasn't quite finished. They've spent hours reliving it all, down at the police station, giving statements and being interviewed. It was after six before they let them go. They did offer to take Amara to the hospital to have her looked at before taking her down to the station, but she refused. They made the same offer when Leo released her, and again Amara refused. He's taken her home and this is the first time they're really ever alone.
