Chapter 6 Unpredicted Irritation

  • Landon’s P.O.V
  • “I-I’m so sorry! I got stuck in traffic!” Blair, my secretary of two years, bowed her head while apologizing to me…giving me a good view of her cleavage as she did so.
  • Fuck! I felt my dick stir in my pants. This woman was really going to be the death of me, wasn’t she? And she was absolutely clueless about the effect she had on me.
  • “Let’s not waste any more time.” I snapped at her. “The clients are waiting.”
  • I began walking away in the direction of the elevators and immediately heard the clicking of her heels behind me as Blair sped up to keep up with my long strides.
  • When I had told her to ‘dress nice’ this evening, I had meant to dress in something business casual, appropriate to meet the Rockwood CEO and his son, who would be attending the meeting today. But the moment I had seen my secretary, I had regretted saying anything at all.
  • Oh, she had dressed nice alright…nice enough that I wanted to fuck her up against the walls of the elevator, hear her purr of pleasure in my ears as I drove my shaft into her. But since I got the news that Mr. Campbell will be bringing his son, I had been on edge. He did not need to see Blair in this outfit, but it was already too late to turn back now and ask her to change. The guests were waiting in one of the luxury suits and Blair was already fifteen minutes late.
  • The elevator doors closed as soon as we got in and the scent of her perfume had me almost mesmerized. Did she always use this scent? The one that smelled like lavender and roses? I had been in the same elevator as Blair a thousand times before, but tonight just seemed different. The way her presence just wrapped around me was unlike anything I had felt before. I chanced a glance at her from the corner of my eyes, saw her holding onto the files for dear life as she bit down on her lower lip.
  • Maybe it was nervousness? This project was a huge deal for my father and millions were at stake. Blair and I had pulled countless over-nighters to get the perfect plan for the Rockwood CEO that he would never be able to refuse. Overall, Blair was the perfect secretary. The only one who had been able to last two whole years after I joined my father’s company…was I really willing to throw that all out the window just for a taste of her?
  • The no-dating rule that my father had set in the company when it was still under his governance had been abolished once I had taken full charge of the company over a year ago, but some of the employees, who had been at the company for ages, still believed and followed it till date. Moreover…it’s not like I was going to date her…
  • I had once suspected that my father had hired her because he was having an affair with her…but I had been wrong. In the end, it had turned out that it really was a co-incidence that the two of them met at the hospital that day and she got hired purely because of her resume. Maybe I had been wrong…but I hated admitting it out loud…and I still had several doubts about her that weren’t yet cleared. So until they were cleared…maybe I should keep it in my pants and keep my thoughts to myself.
  • The elevator doors opened then and I felt myself breathing a sigh of relief as I walked out into the open lobby, no longer engulfed in just her scent. Blair followed behind me just as nervously…almost hesitantly.
  • “Mr. Campbell’s son will be here today.” I gave her a warning. “Be careful of him.”
  • “Sir?”
  • The confusion in her voice had me halting mid-step. Fuck! Why would she need to be careful of Erick Campbell? She was a hot, single woman in her prime. If she wanted to spend time with Erick, date him or just…have a casual relationship with him, it was none of my business. Then why the fuck had I just told her to be careful?
  • Without another word, I began walking briskly to the suite that was assigned to the Campbell’s and knocked on the door as soon as we reached it.
  • Much to my annoyance, it was Erick who opened the door and his eyes instantly went past me to rest on Blair…much too long for my preference. From the corner of my eyes I saw Blair smile and blush at Erick’s appreciative stare and somehow that just increased my annoyance towards the both of them.
  • “Mr. Campbell,” I held out my hand for Erick, whose attention jerked towards me as if seeing me for the first time. “Nice to meet you. I’m Landon Maxwell from Maxwell Building Incorporated. I have an appointment with your father.”
  • “Ah! Landon!” The brunette haired, green eyed male completely ditched formalities to shake my hand. “Pa has been waiting for you. Come on in.”
  • I followed Erick inside the room and shook hands with Alexander Campbell, the CEO of Rockwood. However, just as we all sat down to discuss business, Erick piped in.
  • “And who would this pretty lady be?” He asked, smiling at Blair. “I didn’t catch your name.”
  • “Pardon me. I’m Blair Avalon,” she returned his smile. “I’m Mr. Maxwell’s personal secretary.”
  • “Lovely name, Blair.” Erick’s smile widened. “Well, would you like to join me for a couple drinks? Let the grown-ups do the business talk?”
  • Grown-ups? Did Erick just indicate that I was some rusty old man in the same category as his father? I was twenty eight for fuck’s sake!
  • “Oh! There he goes again!” Alexander scoffed at his son. “He’ll take any excuse he gets to skip out on work. Never mind him, Mr. Maxwell, I think we will do better without him here.”
  • It wasn’t the answer I had been hoping for. Disappointed, I had to watch Blair give me a smile before joining Erick at the bar on the other side of the room. It prevented me from even being able to listen in on their conversation.
  • My meeting with Alexander went better than I had planned, however. He loved the project almost instantly and was excited for us to get started on his new resort. I was relieved and happy that I had been able to secure the deal that my father had wanted us to get for quite some time now. But on the other hand, I was equally annoyed because I would have to work closely with Erick during the entire run of the project.
  • By the time the meeting with Alexander was over, I was about ready to get the hell out of here and away from Erick and Blair. I could hear her giggles all throughout the meeting, along with Erick’s flirty comments. I think I even saw him reach out to touch her hair at one point.
  • It had made me clench my hands into fists. I hated seeing the two of them together. It irritated me beyond reason. There should’ve been no reason for such behavior on my part, but the more I heard Blair’s giggles in the background, the more I became infuriated, causing me to zone out some of my conversation with Alexander.
  • “You have a deal then, Mr. Maxwell.” Alexander shook my hand with a satisfied smile before turning a disappointing glance towards his son. “Erick! Get over here!”
  • Erick stumbled over to where we stood, his cheeks red and a stagger to his strides. He was accompanied with Blaire who looked more than a little intoxicated herself. Fuck! How much have the two of them been drinking?
  • “Erick! You are such a disappointment, boy!” Alexander sighed. “How could you be so careless about your drinking habits when we have guests?”
  • “It’s alright, Mr. Campbell.” I forced a smile upon my lips. “I think I should get my secretary home safely.”
  • “Are you sure you won’t be staying for dinner?” Alexander asked, looking a bit disappointed. “I was looking forward to celebrating our successful signing of the contract.”
  • “I would’ve loved to.” I told him sincerely. “But my secretary gets sick if she has too much alcohol. I should look after my employee’s safety as well. And since we would be cooperating from now on, we can have dinner another time.”
  • “Yes, yes!” A smile lit up the old man’s face. “Take care. Both of you.”
  • “Thank you.” I bowed slightly to him before turning towards Blair.
  • Her hair looked messed up for some reason and my eyes narrowed at the smudged lipstick at the corner of her lips. I had been keeping an eye on them both all this time and neither of them had been bold enough to start kissing in the middle of the room. Then how did she mess up her own makeup?
  • Irritated, I grabbed a hold of her hand and began dragging her out of the room. Blair stumbled after me, walking a bit unsteadily.
  • “Hey!”
  • We were just at the lobby when Erick came running after us. I tuned to face him irritably. “Yes, Mr. Campbell?”
  • “Your secretary, I think she’s a light weight.” He said, coming to a stop in front of me. “Why don’t you stay here instead of going out now? It’s late and you should let her rest in case she gets sick.”
  • “Thank you for your concern, Mr. Campbell,” I forced a smile, tightening my hand on Blair. “I’ll make certain to take care of my secretary.”
