• The morning sun shone across the city as I found myself growing increasingly uneasy. Blair, my reliable and punctual assistant, the woman who took up so much space in my mind lately, was inexplicably late for work today, a deviation from her usual dependable routine that set off alarm bells in my mind. Anxious thoughts began to cross my mind, each one a haunting thought about what could have happened–that is, if anything did.
• For all I know, she could just be running late.
