Chapter 6

• ”So what is it that you want me to do?”
• Nathan asked as he lay in his hospital bed, Gianni was in the room with him, He knew he should probably apologize for what he had said to her earlier since it was clear he had misjudged her but his pride didn’t let him, he still didn’t know what she wanted him to do and now that she has helped him so much, he might not be able to tell her no, not like he wanted to, where would he have gotten such money if she had not shown up.
• “Let’s see, how about we start with you apologizing for what you said earlier, it was insulting to assume I wanted to pay you for sex, that’s not something anyone wants to be known for,”
• She said, if only she has met his ex, he couldn’t believe Annie was an ex now, it still felt like he dreamt the whole thing.
• “I am sorry for what I said, I shouldn’t have jumped to a conclusion without first hearing from you, please can you tell me now what it is you want me to do,”
• He apologized and requested.
• “Sure, as I said earlier, I have a deal for you that can make you the heir of the richest man in the country, my husband Sebastian Ulmer,”
• She revealed and Nathan stared at her in confusion.
• “What and how is that going to happen?’
• He asked wondering if she was insane, no way was she for real as far as he knew, Sebastian Ulmer was a rich man who spent his young age as a playboy bachelor and only got married for the first time in his fifties, his first wife broke their marriage and got a huge divorce settlement deal from him, they never had a child together, that happened when he was still a child around the age of thirteen or so, then two years ago, news got out that he had married a woman forty years younger than him, the woman standing before him right now and saying the craziest thing he has ever heard, as far as he knows, she is his only heir, why would she need him to be the heir.
• “Sab has been looking for the child he had with one of his mistresses,”
• She revealed.
• “Okay, but that’s not me, I at least know who my dad is,”
• Nathan responded wondering what Sabastian son had to do with him.
• “Yes, I know but you fit the description of the child he is looking for, I am not saying it is you, but the year of birth matches and you are the only ones so far that matches,’’
• She revealed, he still didn’t know what she was onto but figured he should let her explain, no more jumping to conclusions.
• “Go on,” he persuaded.
• “Well, Sab is sick and he doesn’t have much time to live, now his family members, his brothers’ children who never wanted anything to do with him while he was healthy suddenly want him to transfer his wealth to them,”
• She explained, that made no sense, everyone knew Gianni as the heir.
• “That doesn’t make any sense, especially since you are married to him, right?”
• “Yes, that’s it but their argument is we didn’t have a child together so I have no claim over their brother’s wealth, they are trying to persuade him to change the name on his will which currently carries my name, to one of their names, Sab is close to giving in already but he told me if I can find his son, then he will split his wealth between the both of us, the problem is, I have been searching for the young man for over six months now,”
• She explained and paused, he waited for her to continue, already getting the picture of what she wanted from him.
• “Now, the doctor said Sab has just a couple of months more to live, the pressure on him from his family is getting worse, I saw you a week ago when you came to deliver something at the saloon where I make my hair and have been watching you since then and you fit so well, please help me,”
• She said. Nathan couldn’t believe she has been watching his every move for a whole week and he didn’t even notice.
• “Why would you be watching me? That’s creepy,”
• Nathan let out. he couldn’t stop himself.
• “Technically, I wasn’t watching you myself, I had people do it, I was going to talk to you today when I saw you collapsed on the roadside, it was like it was meant to be,”
• She responded.
• “That’s a crazy thing to say,”
• Nathan said hating that she had him under watch all these while and he had no idea which means she knew about all his humiliating moments, what was he even thinking, she literally just paid for his sister to stay alive and a lot more other things, she practically knew everything about his miserable life already and she was offering to help.
• “What do I gain from this if, by chance, I decide to pretend as his son?”
• He asked.
• “You gain a lot, money, fame, name it,”
• She answered. It was a very tempting offer.
• “What do you say? Will you accept this once-in-a-lifetime offer? If you do, you will not only secure your future but you will also be giving your sisters a better life,”
• She encouraged. what she wanted didn’t seem like something impossible just that he felt weird that he has to deceive a dying man, his mom would roll over in her grave if she finds out what he was about to agree to but as she said, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and he would be a fool to let it pass him by.
• “Yes, I will do it,”
• He stated and she smiled happily.
• “Good, I will start the paper works immediately and have you meet Sab soon, he doesn’t have much time left so you don’t have to play his loving son for long, but one thing though, once he signs over all his property to you, you will have to head the company,”
• She revealed, he didn’t have a problem with that, he may not have completed business school, but he had the knowledge, and all he had needed was money to start, If he had those, he would certainly do well, more so, Gianni would be there to help him.
• “One thing though,”
• He said as she made to leave.
• “Yeah?”
• “Until when does this last?’
• He asked. He needed to make sure so that he would know what he is working with.
• “Hmm, when Sab dies, I need someone to run the company with me, if you are good during the time he is here, you can continue, we don’t want those vultures cracking down on us remember,”
• She explained and he nodded, he was so tired and sleepy already his life for the past two days had been a rollercoaster of events, and all he wanted to do now was take a good rest before he begins his new life as the only heir to the wealth of Sebastian Ulmer, he closed his eyes and when he opened them again, Gianni already left, how his day started yesterday with a woman breaking and crushing his heart and one day later, another woman just gave him the key to a better life, maybe miracles did happen after, for the first time in a long time, he closed his eyes and fell into a comfortable sleep knowing that he would wake up the next day to riches.
