• I read his message repeatedly, trying to understand why he sounded so desperate. I wanted to call him, but that would simply be a distraction on my first day at work. We talked about this last night and he agreed with me that I needed to focus more on work. So why the hell is he trying to distract me today instead of encouraging me to do well on my first day. I would have called him back to hear what he had to say, but I decided to focus on my first day at work and get to meet everyone.
• “I’ll see you at lunch, Ken, I can’t see you now because I’m already at the company. If you want, you can come over to the company. I’m sure I can use your help since I’m new to all of this.” I texted him back, smiling as I thought of the possibility of having him here as I got acquainted with my new job.
